From then on, that drive should work fantastically between Mac and Windows machines. It won't work with Linux unless you install Linux's exFAT drivers, but for most people, exFAT is just about. Once the drive is formatted it will be compatible to be read and written to on both a Mac and PC, and the resulting FAT file system is compatible with all versions of Mac OS X, Windows 95, 98, Windows XP, Vista, 7, Windows 8, even Windows 10, it’s one of the most widely recognized and usable file system formats. A drive with two partitions, for example can have one partitioned in ExFAT and another in a Mac OS Extended format, so you can use the same drive on a Mac and a Windows computer. Select a format for each partition. For a drive that you will use as a universal sharing drive, such as a USB flash drive that you intend to use on macOS, Windows, and/or Linux systems, you want to use a universal file system, such as ExFAT.
• In the Erase panel, use the drop-down Scheme field to select the: • GUID Partition Map • Master Boot Record • Apple Partition Map • GUID Partition Map is the default selection and will work for all Macs using Intel processors. The other two choices are for specific needs that, once again, we won’t be going into at this time. Make your selection. • In the Erase panel, after you have made all of your selections, click the Erase button. • Disk Utility will erase and format the selected drive, resulting in a single volume being created and mounted on your Mac’s desktop.
He lives in the Middle East and postal service is slow and very unreliable. I thought that maybe I could create a disc image and email that, but a colleague says I would need to compress the disc image first before emailing. OK, if this is correct, can anyone advise how to compress the files? Sometimes my discs never arrive. I assumed that a disc image of my music (created in Roxio) would ALREADY be compressed. Winzip.
Click on Erase. • The Erase window will now appear.
Option Two: Paragon HFS+ is $20, But Offers Write Access and Better Integration Paragon’s is a bit fancier, but it’ll cost you. This tool installs a file system driver that allows you to access a Mac-formatted drive like any other drive in File Explorer, or any other Windows application with an open or save dialog. It boasts improved speed, and we wouldn’t be surprised if it were faster than HFSExplorer.
Macs can read files on NTFS drives, but it cannot write to them. So if you need to get files from a PC to your Mac, NTFS is a decent option. However, you won’t be able to move files in the other direction, from Mac to PC. FAT32 The most universally supported way to format your drive is with the FAT32 file system. It works with all versions of Mac OS X and Windows. Case closed, right? Well, not so fast.
I have just ordered the iFlash-DUAL SDXC Adaptor. I have also just ordered 1x 512Gb SDXC UHS-I (U3) Sandisk Extreme Pro and 1x 256Gb SDXC UHS-I (U3) Sandisk Extreme Pro to use with the adaptor. Update for microsoft outlook 2016 (kb2910976) mac. I am going to install this into an ipod Classic 160gb 7th Generation ipod. My question is (as I am reading mixed messages/opinions in the previous posts), do I need to reformat the SDXC cards following the guidelines provided into a FAT32 format or should the Sandisks be good to go straight out of the box in their default factory format which I guess is ExFAT? I am sorry if the answer to this is obvious, but I would just like it confirming before I start this upgrade. Has anyone had experience of using the Sandisk Extreme’s with this adaptor?
