I am kind of new to virtualization myself, but from what I have seen, if 6you do not have the virtualization hardware extensions (VT for intel) then virutalization is more difficult. Without VT, the kernel has to be modified to speak with the hypervisor. With VT or its AMD counterpart, the native kernel can be virtualized. It is all in the processor. Go to the intel/AMD site and see if your processors have the extensions. I can only speak to intel, each processor type has an 'S-spec' and when listing a processor, it will say yes, no, or see S-spec.
